Incredulously Watching the Sink

My feelings towards the USA are extremely conflicting... Actually they are deep ambivalent because I can't come to terms with the growing visceral sense of disgusted disbelief!  I once deeply esteemed the States for their perceived inner freedom. Substantially, this freedom, is not because they are innately better than us in Europe, but because they do not carry the weight of such a long and heavy past. Europe’s history, full of glories and immense brutality, burdens us. This history has made us cautious, clinging firmly to the experienced beneficial path. Consequently, truly radical change—daring to leap into the "completely out of the blue" —is often a rare or impossible choice. Not so in the States. This capacity to dare is why they achieve scientific discoveries that might take Europe an eternity to reach. And yet, this blessed capacity to dare, however, is two-edged. This very same boundless freedom now exposes the terrible price they are paying. When freedom la...

Life requires vigour!

For my friends who run their old farm house as an "agriturismo", which is a kind of country restaurant, I take care of their social activity.
They also offer cultural, artistic and musical events, and are a quite known and appreciated reality in their environment.

Therefore my posts for them do not only present their vegetarian/vegan food but also include points to reflect upon.
Once a week, usually on Monday, I choose an Italian saying to propose some wise suggestions.

I found different sites with Italian "proverbi" (sayings) and it was astonishing to see the number of them! Some are quite scurrilous: I don't know exactly why, but they evoke in me the Pieter Bruegel (the elder) paintings. They have the same "vibration"...
In any case, always sharply wise.

Today I chose this one "A farmer without vigour, the land defeats him without any rigour!" The image I asked AI to create for me was to depict an exhausted farmer almost swalled up by a redundant mais harvest (the one I used for this post).

Yes, the saying refers to the farmer, but actually it is the very same with life. If you have no vigour, strength, determination, focus, will... life literally devours you. Sometimes little by little, sometimes in one bite.

Life is not for timid, tepid, weakling people.
